iPhone Tools ("we", "our", or "us") operates the WhatIsIt mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our App.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address (for authentication)
- Display name (optional)
You may also use the App as a guest without creating an account. Guest usage is limited to 5 identifications per day.
Images
When you use the identification or translation features, we process:
- Photos you take or import for AI analysis
- Images are sent to our AI servers for processing and are not stored beyond the duration of your request
- When using offline (on-device) mode, images never leave your device
Usage Data
We collect limited usage data to operate and improve the service:
- Identification history (result names, categories, confidence scores, model used, timestamps) — stored for signed-in users only
- Daily usage counts for rate-limiting purposes
- Subscription and transaction records
How We Use Your Information
- AI Identification: Photos are processed by AI models to generate identification results and translations
- History: Past identifications are stored in your account so you can review them later
- Account Management: Authentication, daily limit tracking, and subscription management
- Service Improvement: Aggregated, anonymized usage patterns help us improve AI accuracy and app performance
Offline Mode and Privacy
When the on-device AI model is downloaded and enabled, all identification processing occurs entirely on your device. In this mode, no photo data is transmitted to our servers or any third-party AI service. Offline mode requires iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
Permissions We Request
- Camera: To capture photos for AI identification and document translation
- Photo Library: To import existing photos for identification
- Microphone: Used only if video capture is initiated
These permissions are only used for the stated purposes and can be revoked at any time in your device Settings.
Third-Party Services
AI Analysis Providers
Cloud-based identification uses third-party AI services including Google Gemini (optional). Images are transmitted securely to these services for processing only. We do not share your personal account information with AI providers.
Authentication Services
- Sign in with Apple: Apple handles authentication. We receive only the information Apple provides (email, name).
- Sign in with Google: Google handles authentication. We receive only the information Google provides (email, name).
Apple Services
- StoreKit: Used for in-app subscription purchases. All payment processing is handled by Apple.
Third-party services operate under their own privacy policies and terms of service.
Subscription and Payment Information
All subscription purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. We do not have access to your payment information. Apple may collect information related to your purchases in accordance with their privacy policy.
Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information:
- All data transmitted between the App and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS)
- Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device
- Server infrastructure uses industry-standard security practices
Data Retention
Identification history is stored for as long as your account is active. Photos are not stored on our servers beyond the processing of your request. If you delete your account, all associated history and data is permanently removed.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided information to us, please contact us.
Your Rights and Choices
You have control over your data:
- Access: View your identification history within the App
- Delete History: Delete individual history items at any time
- Delete Account: Completely remove your account and all associated data via the Profile tab
- Revoke Permissions: Revoke camera or photo library access in your device Settings
- Guest Mode: Use the App without an account — no history is stored for guest users

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
